QANW Guarantees (for FENSA installations)

For Your Protection
This insurance underwrites the installing contractor’s guarantee, which is usually for defective workmanship and faulty materials. If we as a contractor cease to trade the insurance will take the place of our guarantee for the remaining term of cover.

Why is Insurance Required ?
A contractor will show confidence in his workmanship by giving written guarantees ranging between 12 months and 10 years for the majority of home improvement contracts. If a fault arises during the guarantee period the contractor would normally call to fix the problem at no charge. However a contractor cannot give an absolute assurance as to the length of time he will be in business and therefore be able to honour his guarantee. For this reason a professional contractor should always provide an insurance cover, which will honour his guarantee, in the unlikely event of him ceasing to trade.

What is Covered ?
If a fault is discovered in the original works and you cannot have this fixed because you find the contractor has ceased trading you would lodge a claim. A report would be prepared by another contractor to determine the cause of the problem and if the fault(s) would have been covered by the terms of the contractor’s guarantee the insurance will meet the reasonable costs of rectifying the defects up to the limit of the original contract price.

Cover Transferable
Heathfield Windows Guarantee is transferable to subsequent owners of the property, the insurance cover will also automatically transfer to the new owner.

The Policy Term
The policy term is linked to the number of years guaranteed, which for FENSA installations by Heathfield Windows is 10 years and the cover commences from the tax pointed date on your contract. Upon receipt of satisfactory completion QANW will Issue directly to you the Homeowner the Back Up Guarantee Certificate of Insurance.

Who Protects You ?
The insurance is underwritten by a major leading British insurer of long standing who is DTI Authorised, a member of the Financial Ombudsman Service and registered with the General Insurance Standards Council and the Financial Services Authority.

What Happens if you Do Not Have Insurance Backing ?
Hopefully, we as your contractor will always be here to respond to any problems that may arise over the next 10 Years and we would meet any remedial costs. However if we were to cease trading for any reason and you chose not to take out a QANW, DTI Authorised Certificate of Insurance you would then have no option, other than to pay for an Independent Contractor to make good any faults that would have been originally covered by your Guarantee.

How Can You Protect Yourself Against the Cowboy Operators?
Many contractors set high standards of workmanship and materials and often a recommendation from friend or colleague can be the best advice. It is a good to look at the contractor’s membership of trade organisations such as FENSA & The Guild of Master Craftsmen, as often they will have been set stringent levels of criteria to gain their membership.

What is a FENSA Registered Contractor ?
Following changes to Building Regulation Document L which took affect on 1st April 2002, Heathfield Windows past all of the stringent levels of criteria and successfully became a FENSA Registered Contractor? This allows our company to self certify any double-glazing work that we carry out to your home, without the need for a Local Council Building Control Officer having to visit site, inspect and then certify Document L Compliancy. Upon receipt of satisfactory completion we will E-Mail your Contract details to FENSA, who may then choose to randomly check our work ensuring we are conforming to the New Requirements of Document L. Once they have either inspected or accepted our work conforms, they will send directly through to you a Certificate of Document L Compliancy and also Register Our Installation on your Home via E-Mail to your Local Councils Building Control Office Computer Records. One of the conditions of registration is that insurance is offered on every double-glazing contract that we as your contractor carry out to your home.

HEATHFIELD WINDOWS (Fensa Registered Number 12429)
